Time Again for the Great Minnesota Get-Together

From the first celebration in 1859, the Minnesota State Fair has been a widely popular tourist destination, now attracting visitors in the millions. It is always held during the 12 days leading up to and through Labor Day, and has been in the same 320-acre Saint Paul location since 1885.Minnesota State Fair Entrance

With somewhere between 1,200 and 1,300 licenses issued each year for businesses to operate during the fair, participating vendors and exhibitors can face quite the battle when trying to get noticed. Individual signs and advertisements are everywhere, often overlapping and potentially overwhelming fairgoers to the point that they don’t even see them. To help combat this issue and get the most possible exposure during the fair, it is critical to have an eye-catching, high-quality sign; even for those who have been operating during the fair for years.

We recommend considering the following points when determining your signage needs:

  • Color Scheme: Chosen colors should pop without being an obnoxious eyesore. It is also wise to choose colors that are in line with your business to help with brand awareness and retention.
  • Materials: For mostly outdoor events like the State Fair, the materials used in making your sign are extremely important. You’ll want to ensure colors won’t fade due to excessive sunlight, or that the sign will look just as good after the rainstorm as it did before. Materials should be tough but attractive, and also reusable if you’ll be using the same message next year.
  • Message: Given the fact that you only have a few seconds to convey your message to fairgoers, its content and clarity are key. It should be short and to-the-point, with just enough color and design to emphasize the text, not overpower it.
  • Size: Location will have a large impact on the appropriate size for your signage. You want it to be proportional to the size of your booth, readable from a distance, and not overshadowed by the competition in the next booth over.
